Description
Garmin is pleased to announce two new slimline radios for the experimental aviation market, building upon the recently introduced GTRâ„¢ 205 COMM radio series for certified aircraft. The panel-mount GTR 205x and remote mount GTR 205xR COMM radios have the same feature set as the GTR 205 radio plus new intercom and audio features. The 1.35-inch GTR 205x matches the bezel height of previous-generation radios, similar to the SL30/40, enabling easier upgrades and diverse installation opportunities in space-constrained instrument panels. Of note, in contrast to the GTR 200/20 series, the 205x and xR include the ability to configure 8.33 kHz COM spacing.
These models serve to transition from the GTR 200(B) and 20 to a new generation of hardware. If you are planning an instrument panel build, we strongly suggest planning these models into your equipment list in place of the previous generation of radios.
Upgrade your COMM radio with the modern, cost-effective slimline GTR 205x radio, and add advanced communication capabilities to your panel. Crafted for both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, the GTR 205x stands out as a versatile radio suitable for various aircraft types and panel setups. With a compact 1.3-inch height, it seamlessly integrates with previous-generation SL30 and SL40 radios, facilitating easier upgrades and freeing up space in tight panels. Pilots can choose between 25 kHz or 8.33 kHz channel spacing, ensuring global compatibility.
Featuring a sunlight-readable color LCD display, the GTR 205x shows active and standby frequencies along with station IDs like KOJC TWR or KSLE ATIS. Its vibrant display, dual concentric knob, and backlit keys resemble those of modern Garmin avionics, ensuring an intuitive user experience.
The GTR 205X enhances any panel with advanced communication capabilities at an optimized cost. With 2,280 channels and 10 watts of power, it provides reliable VHF COMM radio performance. Pilots can monitor a standby COMM frequency while tuned to the active frequency, enabling multitasking such as listening to ATIS transmissions without leaving the ATC frequency.
Its worldwide frequency database simplifies finding frequencies by searching airport identifiers, and frequency memory and instant recall make tuning quick and efficient. Holding down the volume knob quickly tunes to the emergency channel 121.5. Additionally, it includes a built-in timer for approaches, holds, or other assigned maneuvers, with options for counting up or down.
